About Bala Vidya Mandir

Bala Vidya Mandir (BVM) Ashland is a program for kids between the ages 4 and 13 It is intended to help children and youth discover who they are, their ancestry, religious traditions, value system, and cultural heritage in a fun and exciting manner. BVM is a program organized by Youth Cultural and Educational Program committee of Sri Lakshmi Temple, Ashland, MA and executed by volunteers .

The main goal of the program is to:

- balance the physical, intellectual, and spiritual development of children

- cultivate social awareness and volunteer spirit in children and youth

- encourage character-building for developing leaders of the Hindu community

- stress the fundamentals of universal connectedness

- cultivate a sense of belonging to a global society

- help children develop their identity and pride in Hindu culture.

Schedule, Location, and Timing

BVM classes are held every Friday between 7:00 pm and 8:30 pm at Sri Lakshmi Temple, 117, Waverly Street, Ashland, MA 01721.

School year is between September and June of each year. Registrations for school year begin in early September.

Code of Conduct

BVM should be an enjoyable place for kids to learn our culture. But, we expect kids and parents to respect our presence in the temple. All parents are kindy requested to assist BVM in maintaining the following simple code of conduct:

- arrive before class start time (7:00 pm unless posted).

- inform your teacher about planned absence.

- maintain absolute silence during class (even minor noise echos in the basement).

- participate in BVM and assist BVM volunteers before and after class.

- maintain a clean environment conducive for learning.

- practice shlokas at home.

- be a role model for your kid.
